RealWear Technology:
The Safest Industrial Wearable

For Questions about Manufacturing Solutions

Industrial workers all around the world face daunting challenges every day. They must stay alert to the performance of countless systems while navigating complex and often dangerous environments. If you’re responsible for improving worker safety and productivity, where do you start?

Free your hands with industrial wearable technology.

Industrial wearables are tools, technology or devices that are purpose-built to help workers be more efficient and productive without distracting them from their hazardous environment.

Recently featured in New Equipment Digest, both the RealWear HMT-1 and the intrinsically safe HMT-1Z1 were given the distinction as being the “industrial wearable of choice.” While they have great reasons for giving us their stamp of approval, here are our five goals that we had in mind when we designed the HMT devices.

The Top 5 Benefits of RealWear Industrial Wearable Technology

1. Empower Industrial Workers

The performance of an entire factory might hinge upon a single gauge or pump. If industrial workers can respond to changing conditions in a factory, they can reduce costly downtime. But what if they could be proactive?

If knowledge is power, then being able to get the right information at the right time and in the right context is empowering. Workers can do more when they know more.

The HMT-1 and HMT-1Z1 are essentially Android tablets in the form of wearable headsets. Anything that can run on an Android tablet can run on the HMT platform. That means workers can wireless go online or connect with their organization’s intranet while in the field or factory floor. Whether they need to refer to an equipment manual, complete a checklist, view multimedia or ask a colleague a technical question, a worker can do so directly on the headset.

2. Focus on Safety

Our RealWear devices were designed with safety in mind. Industrial workers are often in the field or in potentially hazardous situations. This can be as “mundane” as scaling a ladder to maintain an HVAC system or as dangerous as working in explosive atmospheres.

The HMT platform is hands-free. This allows workers to control the device while continuing to use their hands to operate tools and equipment. Workers can also keep their attention on the task at hand. The voice-activated controls means workers don’t have to shift their attention from what they’re working on to a screen or keyboard.

Our industrial wearable technology enables workers to view content on a micro-display. Digital information is displayed in the worker’s line of sight without obstructing their line of sight.

The HMT-1Z1 is also the only voice-operated, intrinsically safe computer approved for ATEX Zone 1, IECEx Zone 1 and CSA C1-D1. Each of these designations indicate hazardous environments where explosive gases might occur under normal conditions.

3. Improve Knowledge Transfer

While many companies are tracking machinery performance through the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), not all of this information is valuable at every moment. Managing this firehose of data is one of the most important IoT use cases in manufacturing and industry. How do you get the right information to industrial workers at the right time?

RealWear headsets give industrial workers an easy way to drill down on the data that matters. The HMT-1 and HMT-1Z1 industrial wearables allow workers to interact with machinery in ways that have never been possible before.

4. Keep it Simple

Industrial workers have enough to think about without having to learn a new piece of hardware. One of our goals has been to create an industrial wearable that is as simple as it is useful to workers in the field.

That’s why new RealWear users can get started by remembering just one phrase: “Say what you see.”

By saying the menu options you see on the micro-display, workers can access content, open schematics, get on a video call with a colleague, or even play a favorite playlist on Spotify.

To make the experience even more intuitive, RealWear has more than 77 technology partners and 14 system integrations. This means workers don’t need to learn how to navigate new programs. They can use applications they’re already familiar with, including Microsoft Teams, Cisco, TeamViewer and more.

5. Stay Connected with Peers

An aspect of empowering workers is being able to collaborate with mentors or specialists when they need help. Workers can remotely connect with peers and have live chats to diagnose issues in the field.

Both the HMT-1 and HMT-1Z1 have a high-resolution camera so the remote colleague can see exactly what the worker sees in real time. With the micro-display and headphones, workers are able to see and hear expert advice at the point of need.

This allows issues to be more quickly resolved and eliminates the need to send and receive clarification images or videos, which can extend equipment downtime.

Say what you see commands make hands-free industrial wearable technology safer and more intuitive.
