Release 12

As well as enhanced Video Stabilisation, users now benefit from improved cloud dictation, Dutch language support and Android 10 via over-the-air firmware update for RealWear’s HMT-1

12 April, 2021 – Hannover/Vancouver WA/London – RealWear, Inc, a global leader of hands-free head-mounted computers for digital transformation in industry, has announced a vastly improved user experience for its device, following its latest firmware update, Release 12. This includes new features ranging from enhanced video stabilisation to improved cloud dictation, Android 10 and Dutch language support.

RealWear develops hands-free, voice operated wearable headsets designed from the ground up to address the unique needs of industries ranging from Oil & Gas, Logistics & Transportation, Manufacturing, Healthcare and Automotive. The company’s flagship product, the HMT-1, is the world’s leading ruggedised, head-mounted wearable Android-class tablet computer that frees a worker’s hands for dangerous jobs. Unlike other devices available on the market, the HMT-1 serves as an all day, collaborative working device. It provides frontline workers with 9-10 hours of battery through varied use. Batteries are also hot-swappable to avoid downtime or lost progress while working.

The new firmware updates for the HMT-1 build on an already stellar camera, providing 1080p video at up to 30 frames per second and video stabilisation in real-time – an essential feature for users on the frontline. It helps eliminate undesirable “micro-movements” of the user’s natural motions and movements which will allow for smoother collaboration with teams and colleagues remotely. This type of natural experience may be expected in prosumer devices, but in the head-mounted industrial wearable category, this is considered one-of-a-kind technology, giving RealWear the lead from a technology standpoint to deliver assisted reality experiences. The software provides movement detection, a high degree of accuracy, dynamic blur capture, EVS (Electronic Video Stabilisation) and performance in low power modes.

Due to the pandemic and the resulting travel restrictions, engineers were no longer able to travel to factories and facilities to support onsite technicians in person; as a result, RealWear quickly became the wearable device of choice for virtual, remote collaboration for troubleshooting equipment and performing quality checks, audits, inspections, plant tours, and product and factory acceptance tests (FAT). Spurred on by this success, leading collaboration companies — including Microsoft, Cisco, and Zoom — have custom-tailored their software to fully leverage RealWear’s assisted reality wearable solution that is the choice of frontline workers at some of the world’s prominent industrial brands.

In light of RealWear’s unprecedented growth over the past year, it recently opened a new Customer Experience Centre in Dubai Internet City to meet the growing demand for its products and services in the Middle East. The company also opened new offices in other major markets and recently announced that it has achieved a milestone of shipping wearable devices to more than 3,000 unique corporate customers worldwide in various industries.

“Release 12 promises to bring frontline workers even more clarity when out in the field”, commented Jon Arnold, VP of Sales, EMEA, RealWear, Inc. “With many of our customers now reliant on wearable technology, it’s vital that frontline workers can provide the best possible clarity and visibility of a site to their teams and colleagues who may be based remotely. Release 12 addresses this requirement with further language support, improved voice dictation and video stabilisation.”

Release 12 will provide the following updates for the HMT-1:

  • Dutch Language Support – Voice commands spoken in Dutch can control RealWear’s operating system and software applications. Cloud dictation (voice to text) is supported with internet connectivity. This means global operations can now be connected to millions of essential and “key” workers who speak Dutch.
  • Improved Cloud Dictation – Release 12 introduces an entirely new cloud dictation engine for RealWear’s speech keyboard. It will feel the same, but the new engine will deliver more accurate, responsive and grammatically correct results.
  • RealWear HMT-1 Upgraded to Android 10 – Release 12 will upgrade RealWear HMT-1’s device firmware and native applications to Android 10. This will improve device functionality, usability and security.
  • All New Realwear ExplorerRealWear Explorer (release notes) is a very popular and useful free RealWear helper tool that runs on Mac or Windows PC mirroring the screen of an HMT-1 onto the screen of a computer. RealWear Explorer was originally made for developers but is very popular for end users, too.  In addition to testing users UX, it’s great for demos to a larger group onto a big screen to show the frontline worker point of view (POV) perspective, for testing apps under development, and to aid in entering passwords. RealWear Explorer is compatible with both the HMT-1 and the intrinsically safe HMT-1Z1.
