Tokyo, Japan – July 13 , 2021 –  RealWear Inc, a global leader of assisted reality solutions, today announced the appointment of Makoto Ito as Country Manager to lead its fast growing market in Japan. RealWear’s increased focus on Japan is in direct response to strong market demand as large companies seek assisted reality solutions to improve worker productivity while enhancing safety on the frontlines.

Makoto Ito Brings Experience and Leadership to Drive Business Expansion of Assisted Reality in Japan

“The future of work on the frontline is hybrid,” said John Higgs, Vice President, Asia Pacific and Japan, RealWear. “We’ve seen tremendous demand for our assisted reality wearable solutions across Asia Pacific, and particularly in Japan, to address this global trend. Makoto Ito’s executive appointment enables us to respond effectively to the groundswell of demand in this region and gives us the ability to provide local support.”

In his new role as Country Manager, Mr. Ito brings his wealth of experience in the IT industry to RealWear.  Mr. Ito will drive RealWear’s business growth and strategy in Japan with a focus on partner ecosystem development.

Mr. Ito’s appointment comes in the midst of Japan being highlighted as an important area of growth for RealWear. Earlier in February, the company reported triple global growth in 2020. Established in 2016, RealWear has more than 120 employees, with about 10% of its workforce now situated in Asia Pacific.

Mr. Ito has more than twenty years of experience in the IT industry, including leadership roles at Cisco, CipherTrust and Riverbed Technology.  At VMware, he led the technical and sales team and as a divisional supervisor, contributing significantly to the SD-WAN business.

“RealWear’s assisted reality solutions have become game changers for many Japanese companies,” said Mr. Ito. “In Japan, a falling birth rate and an aging population has led to a decline in the number of skilled engineers. In addition, COVID-19 pandemic has fueled the acceleration of digital transformation and remote collaboration initiatives.  We are bridging the skills gap by offering hands-free remote collaboration technology like Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Webex on our assisted reality devices for the frontlines.”

RealWear’s flagship product, the HMT-1, is the world’s leading ruggedized, head-mounted wearable Android-class tablet computer that frees a worker’s hands for dangerous jobs. The HMT-1 empowers frontline workers to use both hands for complex work tasks while remotely communicating in real time with subject matter experts thorough real-time video and audio transmission.  Using simple voice commands, a worker calls up manuals, documents and digital workflows that are customized for a specific task such as performing quality checks, audits, inspections, plant tours, and product and factory acceptance tests (FAT).

RealWear’s HMT-1 wearable devices are designed to address the unique needs of industries ranging from Oil & Gas, Construction, Logistics & Transportation, Manufacturing, Healthcare and Automotive. More than 4,500 customers worldwide are using RealWear heads-up displays, including Yokogawa and NTT West in the Japan market.
